Singing music is a great way to practice your child’s target language!
One of my favorite (and simplest) children’s song is the Brazilian Portuguese rendition of ‘Old McDonald had a farm’; Sitio do Seu Lobato.
My son loves the music from Galinha Pintadinha and he’s recently been trying to sing along, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to put together an activity to help along his language skills in Portuguese. Kids learn by doing so let’s get started.
Activity
The cards below are called 3-part cards. They come in 3 parts; a card with a word, a card with a photo and a card with a photo/word combo. 
Children can match the words with the correct pictures by using the combo card as a reference. This helps children with word recognition and early reading skills. For this activity we are going to use the cards as they are meant to be used but we are also going to use them to teach here (pra cá) and there (pra lá). Teaching this way is helpful for kids with speech delays since you can’t explain with words what pra cá and pra lá mean. You have to show them.
The download contains 2 sets of cards. I put one of the cards, let’s say for the cow, on the other end of the room while my son and I hold the other cow. While we are singing (pra cá) I will point to cow we have and when we sing (pra lá) I will point to the cow across the room. I hope this helps!
